Would you support small indie game devs or big name publishers?
So back in 2013, Electronic Arts, or better known today as EA, released SimCity. You could purchase the game through multiple places online, one of them being EA's own Origin Systems. There was a little waiver thing that apparently, if you purchased the game through EA's Origin Systems, no refunds allowed. I purchased the game through Origin Systems because I thought that would be the most reputable place. And if I wanted a refund they'd be like, oh yea we see you purchased through us so no problem. But it was the complete opposite.
The game did horrible, and so I put in for a refund, but as you now know, no refunds available if you purchased through EA's Origin Systems. ANYWAY..... (big sigh)
That was the last time I made a purchase from EA. I now support indie game devs on Steam/GOG. Problem, even with these small game devs you run the risk of putting your money into something that may not come to full fruition. There was a game that was being developed in 2015 called Identity. Long story short, Kickstarter backers basically ended up with a game that is nothing but buggy and has a mostly negative review on Steam. I purchased a game called Airport CEO. Even that game has day one issues, but its at least playable.
There's risk with everything, I know that. But, with how these big AAA companies are, sometimes you see the small indie devs put out games that are sometimes better than these so called AAA games. EA just feels like they're ripping you off blatantly, so I made a decision with my wallet. Even these free mobile games, I went to play Tetris on my phone, but it's an EA game, and even though it was free, I didn't install it. I want nothing more to do with EA. Old games made by developers who worked for Electronic Arts I'll play, but not this new crap.
But how do you feel about the whole thing? As a gamer, would you put your money behind a big name company or a small team of people making a game for what people want? (usually making games that aren't out there)
