I Like Videogames

I am really into farming games or games with farming elements to them because I'm one of them weirdo niche gamers. Here's what I think of the main ones out there right now.

Harvest Moon-as a long time fan, the new games are absolutely terrible and hideous, they keep reusing the same characters which is so lazy and now they're even locking characters behind pay walls. Its just ridiculous. SKIP.

Story of Seasons-unpopular opinion, they are boring. They seem to value quantity of content over quality. The characters are boring. The content that is added is boring. Why do I care if I can get 500 different kinds of animals if they all act the exact same way, I take care of them in the exact same way, blah blah. There is no depth to these games, there is no strategy and they have lost my interest. I could go on but I don't want to make this too long as I have a lot of games to cover.

Rune Factory: Its due for an upgrade. 4 seemed to have a less interesting premise than 3 and no change in graphical style whatsoever. If it had had a flashy or big visual change I feel this would've made a big difference for me. It was just fatiguing to see the exact same look 4 games later. Anyways I just couldn't bring myself to get into it. I feel like they need to make some big changes or add significantly new content for me to come back. I was not a fan of the wii games. The first one had an overly complicated weird farming mechanic with the runies and the second one barely had farming in it at all.

Stardew Valley: This game was awesome, but it is possible to exhaust the content after which there's not really motivation to play it. At least that was my experience. I heard the updates added things like new starting farms and whatnot but I didn't really want to restart my entire game just for a different looking farm

Graveyard Keeper: Certainly a rather non traditional game with farming elements but it was very fun with a ton of things to do. I spent a lot of time on this game. Similarly to stardew valley though once you exhaust those things to do there is not much reason to continue playing.

Shepherd's Crossing: Still an absolute gem and one of my top favorite farm game franchises that is sadly not well known and the normal games are no longer being produced it has just become some dumb mobile game. But 1 and 2 are still very very fun to play. Just the right amount of realism, strategy elements, etc. I cannot recommend these games enough. A lot of people liked 2 a lot more than 1 but I think they are both very different games and shouldn't really be compared and can be enjoyed in their own right.

My Time at Portia: It's ugly....and not very interesting. I hated the crafting system. I do not like the mechanic of timed crafting and having to sit around for ages to get x amount of iron ore smelted. Who designed that mechanic. Seriously. Also requires an annoying amount of math when calculating how much of each item you need to put in to craft what thing. I don't like math. If you like math I guess it's a good system for you. I could not get into this game.

Yonder: A very cute and relaxing game. I sunk a good amount of time into this one. A lot of stuff to do in it. Very wholesome. You can collect cats. It's nice. Try it.

Farm Manager 2018: Fun game, can be a little overwhelming at times with the amount of stuff you need to keep track of, but if you also happen to be a fan of tycoon like games or city builders like I am you will probably like this game. The best of both worlds.

Farming Sim 19: I know I was just bashing this one recently. Without the Seasons 19 mod it is quite boring. Seasons 19 adds a great amount of strategy to spice things up. My main complaint with it as I mentioned is it is a VERY steep learning curve and is not friendly to new players. I have spent probably hours watching videos about how to play and looking up guides. Constantly looking up guides to know what the heck im doing. I spent hours trying to sow my fields and realized I hadn't planted anything because my sower was on backwards because how the heck am I supposed to know what way a sower goes on a tractor. Anyways. Once you get past the steep learning curve it is actually pretty fun and satisfying. The amount of driving in it can be tedious but considering you can just hire npcs to do it for you I can't really complain about that, I am just cheap and don't want to hire anyone LOL.

Worlds Dawn: Seems like a very cute and charming little game but it is terribly optimized. I run farming sim 19 fine but cannot run this game well for some reason. I am stuck at like 10 fps with frequent lagging and the controller movement lags as well. It just does not feel polished at all, and to me is unplayable due to these things unfortunately. Maybe this is just a weird thing with my computer, I don't know.

Farm Together: cute, but kind of barren in content, and a very slow start. I abandoned this one pretty quickly.

Gleaner Heights: Very interesting premise, good nostalgic feel but really really slow paced. I'm not sure how I feel about this one.

Farmington County: This game has a lot of promise to me. It is early access but receives updates with significant content very regularly. Fun graphical style, i like the concept of being able to have a small farm where you take care of everything by hand or having a more modern huge farm with everything mechanized. Also you can have 2 dogs. TWO. Currently the animal system is a little underdeveloped for me but I am definitely keeping my eye on it.

Anyways I think that is all the farming games I've played....in summary the old harvest moon games, the ds rune factory games, stardew valley, graveyard keeper, shepherds crossing 1&2 and yonder imo are worth playing. Farming Manager 2018 is worth playing if you also like tycoon or city builder games. Farming sim 19 is a good choice only if you are willing to put in a lot of time learning how to play bc of very steep learning curve. And that's it!
