I have a train trip tomorrow, Berlin to Amsterdam.

Direct trains from Berlin to Amsterdam take approximately 5 hours 50 minutes to 6 hours 30 minutes, primarily operated by Deutsche Bahn (DB) Intercity trains.

Recent upgrades (2024-2025) have introduced faster ICE 3neo trains on some services, departing from Berlin Hauptbahnhof and arriving at Amsterdam Centraal.Key

Journey Time: ~5h 51m to 6h 30m.Operator: DB & NS (Deutsche Bahn/Dutch Railways). Generally five to six daily departures. Stops usually include Hanover, Bad Bentheim, and Amsterdam.

ICE (Intercity Express): The faster, modern option. The new ICE 3neo, now in service, offers enhanced comfort, wifi, restaurant cars, and power sockets.

Classic intercity trains, often utilizing comfortable, modernized coaches.

Night train option available for this route.

Reservations are recommended, particularly during peak travel times and for international routes between Germany and the Netherlands.

First Class, offers more space, comfortable seating, and extra legroom.

Booking early through DB can often yield lower fares.

DB? Don't bank on them getting you there on time. On the day would be a win.

@FreddieUK I haven’t had any problems with trains

@Lonar2 I'm very pleased to hear that. Having traveled by train all over Europe, I'm afraid DB's reliability has deteriorated a lot in recent years. I understand that the ICE3neos are much more reliable that the previous multi-voltage series, but they are also fighting network capacity issues, which affects punctuality. I love train travel and enjoy reading your updates (with a touch of envy as well 🙂) and wish you well on your journey.
