Leave yourself some space to upgrade in... it's better to start with a cheap, small bike that you don't mind getting scratched and dinged - then work up to the big bikes with experience and time on your side.

I would say, yes. Buy something little for a lot less. Once comfortable sell it and invest in a bigger bike.

keep in mind you WILL drop at some point, whether riding or coming to stop or trying to park...for 1st, i suggest no more than 500 cc.
