Royal Enfield Motorcycles

Does anyone have any experience with RE? I'm thinking about getting a
2023 Himalayan.

Only the old ones from the 60’s.

@jackson55 They were probably made in the UK back then?
jackson55 · M
@DogMan RE UK closed in 1971. The Indian RE had been making motorcycles under license from 1955.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 Those Indian folks ride a lot of Motorcycles. They will probably buy up all
the 2024's that why we won't get them until 2025.

@DogMan The 350 single is the best seller in India.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 The Himalayan has a 411cc Do you think it is a punched out 350?
jackson55 · M
@DogMan It has an entirely new engine design. From what I’ve read the 500 cc engine has been dropped. The 350 and 411 singles and the 650:twin is what they make now.

@jackson55 The new Himalayan is going to be their first watercooled I heard.

452CC 40hp 40lb ft torque
jackson55 · M
@DogMan Indian Enfields are some of the best selling motorcycles in the world now.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 What is the bike in your profile?
jackson55 · M
@DogMan It’s 1960 BSA Gold Star. I’ve owned it for 50 years. That photo was taken at a BSA rally in California.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 Oh, NICE! A few years ago one of the engineers at Caesars palace here in
Las Vegas, took me to a storage room and showed me one of Evil Knevils BSA
promotional bikes under a bunch of boxes collecting dust.
I asked if I could buy it, but it was a no go. It is now on display in their corporate office.
jackson55 · M
@DogMan Was it a BSA or a Triumph ? He rode Triumphs and Harleys. Never saw him on a BSA.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 Hello Jack, I just got back to the office. I am only online for a couple
hours in the morning. Semi Retired ☺️ I thought it was a BSA, it was a single cylinder,
no badges, appeared to be about 350cc. It was not one that he jumped with.

Did triumph have a small single cylinder?
jackson55 · M
@DogMan Yes, Triumph had the Cub. It was a 200cc single.
jackson55 · M
@DogMan Do you ride ?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 Yes, I just got back into it after 20 years. Owned a lot of bikes years ago.

Mostly dual purpose bikes. The XT500 was one of my favorites. Did a few enduro races back in
the 80's used a KDX175, & XR500, Later I had an RMX250 KDX220 and a Husky 510.
The only street bikes I had were a KZ1000 I think it was a 1979, and also a V-twin Vulcan.
First bike was the Honda Trail 70, very fond memories of that little bike when I was a kid.

I'm feeling like a kid again now at 64, hitting the streets and trails on a little XT250.
I plan on adding the Himalayan soon. There are so many nice bikes out there,
I would like to fill my garage. It looks like I will be selling my jeep to buy them.
jackson55 · M
@DogMan Good for you. I still have several motorcycles. Down to 8 from 22. Sold off many of my antiques and vintage bikes.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 Wow, you must have a big garage. I'm actually in the process
of building another garage, going through permit phase now.

What do you have now? And what is your all time favorite?
jackson55 · M
@DogMan I have a shop. Yeah, they take up some room. Favorite is the Gold Star. I have a Norton that I ride a lot. A BSA 441 SS, a couple BMW’s, a Yamaha Vision. 2 Honda trials bikes and 2 BSA’s that I used to ride in AHRMA events.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 Wow, how fun. I would be out there every day polishing and riding.
I have been torn on what kind of ADV/Dual purpose I want to add. I really like
the BMW 310GS, seems like a good street and mild trail bike.
I also like the KTM390.
jackson55 · M
@DogMan The BMW’s I have are road bikes. The GS’s and other dual purpose bikes have gotten too high. Need a stool to get on one. Have a friend with a BMW 800 GS. He’d like to lower it an inch or two. The older you get the higher and heaver they get.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@jackson55 That is the nice thing about the little GS. just under 33" seat height, I have a 29"
inseam and it was comfortable with both feet on the ground. my 200lbs probably helped compress
the rear shock a little too. Lol
