Most states in the United States drivers are required to yield to pedestrians crossing in crosswalks. Most drivers don't understand what yield means

@SinlessOnslaught if im wrong, thetecwould be pedestrians hurt or dead every day. And drivets in jail. Its rare to hear of it hapoening

@AnnSteve Really, because there are two road bends near where I live where a total of 4 pedestrians have been run over in my lifetime, 3 of whom died, and besides that, I've seen many pedestrians wait for or dodge cars while in a crosswalk (and one was in a wheelchair). Actually I just dodged an SUV the other day.

@SinlessOnslaught there,are thousands of drivers. Me or anyone i know have never come closevto hitting anyone. Ive seen one petson hit, and he wasnt paying attention. Was on his cell phone

@AnnSteve Some could say you don't notice when someone around you becomes endangered because you don't pay attention.

@AnnSteve Do you check both sides of a crosswalk or slow down around blind bends where someone might be checking their mailbox?

@AnnSteve Yeah exactly. You're one of those people who need 2 foot wide white lines all the way across the road in order to notice pedestrians. Did you know you're supposed to stop for pedestrians in unmarked crosswalks? That means no giant, white lines. Did you also know people can walk into the street to check their mailbox without a crosswalk at all?

So, you don't pay enough attention to notice how often pedestrians have to dodge cars.
