I was a car salesman way back in the day and quit after 3 months
People warned me too. I said I was happy I have a job and people were like, "you don't have a job, you're just wasting your time".
I went on ahead anyways. I was working for Chevrolet. I don't even like American cars. People were coming in asking about the Chevy Malibu. I was just thinking, WHO IN THE HELL would want to buy that? That may have been part of my problem.
What made me quit was when they said I had to sell 20 cars a month. It was just impossible. But I really thought it was impossible when some female sales rep came back from vacation and pretty much took everyone elses leads. All the dudes who came in wanted to work with her. I just gave up and went back to being a mechanic at the time.
There was also no guarantee you would make any money month to month. It was like a big scam.
That job was for someone but not for me.
It's funny cause recently I bought a car and the salesman asked me about selling cars and I said, "I used to be a car salesman but I quit cause I wasn't making any money". The guy was a bit taken a back by that comment and looked me in the eye and said, "I do alright". lol
