Do people still drive those manual cars where you have to shift gears?

deadgerbil · 26-30
Yes. In the States, they make up a small % of cars as people have moved onto automatics, so it's really just people who want to feel 'connected to the road' who drive them

I love autos that come with a manual mode esp if it has paddle shifters
Elessar · 26-30, M
@deadgerbil Ironic how here it's one of the most stolen ones
deadgerbil · 26-30
@Elessar even a large % of semi trucks here are becoming automatic with a manual mode. Italy needs a second Renaissance and move on to automatics
Elessar · 26-30, M
@deadgerbil They're gaining popularity here as well, but so long as stick shift remains a cheaper option many/most won't bother
SophSmiles · 22-25, F
Yep, it’s the majority over here. I drive a manual
ArtieKat · M
@SophSmiles I thought you had one of those little pedal cars! 😸🤣😂
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Some people much prefer those.

A friend of mine made a point of teaching his teenage daughter to drive one of those, so that her friends would never ask to borrow her car!
StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
The cool people do 😎

StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
@Jexie Well … not currently but my last vehicle was standard
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Very common in Europe. A driving course for manual is cheaper and the license allows you to drive both, while a course for automat only gives you license for automat.
QuietEd2019 · 31-35, M
Yes that’s all I have owned so far my next will be automatic transmission as no engine 😋
Wireman · 31-35, M
All my cars were manual, and I still prefer them over the autos.
@Wireman I prefer them, as well. I want to drive the car, rather than letting the car drive me.
deadteddy · 26-30, F
Ofc , they’re very popular outside the United States.
Kstrong · 56-60, F
I prefer them! Drive automatics as they are what's common now
olderuncle944 · 70-79, M
I have a truck with manual and a Subaru with manual
I LOVE TO! When I get a chance!
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I have one in my garage
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Haven’t in awhile
Had a manual shift truck for 20 years and learned how to drive in a manual Toyota Celica
Had a BMW 323i for a brief period that was manual
Cheesecake · 61-69, M
The majority of people do still in the uk, although most electric cars seem to be autos so that will gradually change. Take a long time though.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Absolutely. And if you're into performance driving they give you much more control over an automatic and brake pedal.
Last time I drove a manual car was a rental in Spain about 2 years ago. We had only manual cars for about 25 years until we got a hybrid.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
Yes - here in the UK around 70% of cars have manual transmission 🙂🙂🙂
Absolutely! I think still the majority of non-EV sales in Europe.
anoderod55 · 61-69, M
Truck has . i hate to row to different places 😩 miss my automatic ❤
Elessar · 26-30, M
That's exactly what I drive. Never had an automatic
Lugwho · 56-60, M
Yes, mine doesn't like reverse at the moment
Yeah, for long drive and off-road.
mindless · M
I absolutely do

6 speed manual stick
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
I haven't in a while
They are still popular in Europe. But even "manual" transmissions are computer operated and the gear shifter is more to make you feel like you are doing something than something actually useful.
I haven't had anything but a manual-transmission car for the past 30 years. I like driving the car rather than the car driving me.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Yes actually.
In South Africa, most people drive manual.
