Who has the most miles on their car and still thinks it is a bargin to own and drive?

I am facing a situation where I need to replace my old car and need some practical advice.

I don't have it any more because of a hole in the floor. But my 1976 Volvo 245 estate was incredibly reliable. Eventually salt on Norwegian roads rusted it badly enough that it was uneconomical to do the welding in Norway.

But if I had been living in the UK in 1996 when this happened I might well still be driving it because welding work is so much cheaper there.. It was twenty years old and I think it had 260 thousand miles on the clock and the motor was still perfect when I scrapped it. My previous car was even more economical, Volvo 121 Amazon estate, 350 thousand miles, nineteen years old and in perfect working order when I scrapped it in favour of the 245.

I don't think anything built since the 245 has come close to that trouble free longevity.

No idea what modern car would be as good.
