How often do you get an oil change?

Sometimes I wonder if they actually change the oil at all, and simply turn the light off.

I usually do every 5000 miles, per my car manual.

But I wonder if it can actually go longer

I read somewhere that says full synthetic can go up to 15000 miles, though I wouldn't wait that long

When I was doing my own oil changes I would follow the general rule of thumb: change oil once every 3 months or every 3000 miles.

The garage we've been going to for the last 20+ years schedules mine for every 3000, but the car is a 2000, and I know with older cars you do oil changes more often.

@twiigss You dont need to do that depending on the vehicle even regular oild is good for 5000 miles and if it calls for synthetic oil it can go at least 7000 miles ,however there is no harm in changing oil earlier ,

@olderuncle944 I'm usually over on the oil change mileage. So for example my next oil change is to be at 161k, but I'll probably end up going to 161700 or 162300 before I get it changed.

Trip meter A I have set for tracking my mileage between oil changes, right now it's at something like 1,880 miles since last oil change. And I think I was at 4,000 something miles before I had my last oil change. But yeah I've heard at least with newer cars you can change the oil at more mileage.
