What's the general rule with driving a relatives car?

In the United States, I'm driving my moms car since I'm having mine worked on soon, it's recommended that I don't drive it unless i have to. Basically the mechanic said not to drive my car unless I have to, so been driving mom's car for the time being. Mine goes in 6-1-22

We both have the same last name and she has insurance and the car is registered. She just hasn't been going out as much.

General rule depends on her insurance. You see if she doesn't pay her insurance for other people, they just won't cover you.

Good idea to get coverage on your own for that vehicle. Possibly why she doesn't want you to drive it much. Yet even if you don't drive it much there could be serious problems for both of you.

Accidents have been known to happen, even on test drives. Happened to my half brother.

@DeWayfarer no no, the mechanic doesn't want me driving MY car.

@twiigss that's a totally different issue than your relatives car. 🤷🏻‍♂️

You still will need to have insurance coverage for her car for you to drive it.
