Reversed battery connectors

I like to keep my vehicles on a trickle charger. The easiest way is to wire in a quick connector to the battery and then I can plug one in easily.
The problem is that it seems all of these quick connectors have the wrong labels on them. The Red is actually the ground and the Black is positive.
It is easy to see when you look at the charger, it has a Red wire and a black. Follow it to the quick connector and then follow that to the battery connections.
If you hook it up in reverse (Red to Red and Black to Black) the charger will fail to turn on.
It hurts my brain to think of why it is this way, but reversing the quick connectors on the battery end fixes it.
It must be something to do with the charger being made in one country and the quick connectors in another?
The problem you end up with is on your battery you now have a Red connector on the negative terminal and Black on positive, so in 6 months when you forget you reversed it, you could get your battery terminals mixed up when hooking up something new.
Guess I will have to find some Red and Black tape next.
