I have seen people use lacquer thinner in the gas tank to fix catalytic cnverter codes (P0420/P0430). Is it really that risky?

Scotty on YouTube says add a gallon to a half tank of gas and drive it out at highway speeds for 150 miles. I am thinking it wont damage seals as much if you drive it immediately and burn it so it is not soaking and deteriorating the seals for several hours/days.
