@jackrabbit10 I never had them rip off. The just won’t move till they are freed.

@jackrabbit10 In the winter time you lift the wipers off the windshield before you leave the vehicle parked. When you get back you flip the wipers back down before you drive.
@hippyjoe1955 excellent way to stretch the springs that hold them to your windshield.

I use wiper blade sheaths to keep them from freezing to my windshield at 7600’ in the snowy winter months. I have seen people lift their wipers and then have the blowing snow stick to their wiper blades and on particularly big storms where we may get 3-4 feet of snow overnight they can still get wipers that are pretty ineffective depending upon how much their vehicles hood slopes. I used to lift the wipers off the windshield when at a ski area for the day but now I’m a convert and a fan of the sheath/sleeves. I only wish someone could have invented them earlier. Like the skigee in the 1980s/90s(another handy inspired invention from the state of Oregon).

@RunTheJulz I've seen people lift them only to find them encased in ice. I never saw anyone lift them when I lived back home where we actually have winter. I moved south where winter weather occasionally shows up and maybe a quarter of the cars in any given parking lot will have them sticking up in the air.

@SooperSarah yep with enough moisture in the snow/air I’ve seen windshield wiper-icicles and on occasion I’ve forgotten to use my solution and found mine frozen solid in the past.
