You still have to register your car every year and if you don't it could get impounded when you drive it.

That is not entirely true, you only have to register if you want to drive it on public property.
Out west here, I know a few people who never do but they only drive it around their massive farms/ranches and never go on public property.
Don't forget though that if going on public property also required to have car insurance. The penalty here for not being registered is nothing compared to the penalty for no insurance.
No insurance you may go to jail for that, not registering you only lose your car and get fined and then have to pay a ton to get it back if you want it back.
With a car you can avoid having to register and the insurance requirement if you drive it on your own property exclusively 😊.
Real property ownership there is no way to get out of property taxes there.

@Alessa My maternal uncle used to run the family farm in iowa, he had to register and insure each and every motorized vehicle, including all tractors and combines, even when they only stayed on property.

@NativePortlander1970 Here its not required unless on public property. As police can't even enter private property to ticket you if you don't register or insure it.
