If it aint one thing....

A couple days ago I noticed the temperature gauge on my truck was showing unusually cool and thought the thermostat might be stuck open. It wasn't but I replaced it anyway. In the process I discovered one of the bolt holes was just about stripped. It's a cast iron head, HTF did someone even manage that? I guess that explains all the sealant around the housing. Got it back together, temp gauge still reading off, guess temp gauge is wrong.

Today I walked back by and was looking things over and just happened to notice it was low on coolant. I was reasonably sure I got it filled back up so I filled it back up and let it run for a few minutes. Looks like I now have a hole in the radiator. I guess I'm just lucky I caught it.

A thermostat should typically be an easy fix but it seems like something is always screwed up with the housing. It's one of those projects that you think you would be in and out in a heartbeat but then it turns into a major hassle

@CestManan Exactly. I've had it a year, I think it was a "project" for the previous owner who got tired of fixing things. I bought it a year ago and fixed several odds and ends the first week I had it. I need to spend some time on the other problems before things pile up.
