The roller coaster ride I didn’t know I had strapped in for.
Ordered the chicken salad for lunch from the boujee-est place in town. Was excited for an epic sandwich comprised of what had to be some incredible homemade chicken salad on thick slices of wheat bread with visible seeds indicating I was in store for the good stuff. Only to feel disappointment when asked if poppy seed dressing was okay. A ordinary salad with chicken was apparently what I had accidentally ordered. My shoulders actually dropped in a place where there’s no elbows on the tables and your pinky is held high while you sip your hot tea. Waited and waited as the disappointment grew and grew, with my craving for chicken salad with those little red grapes I love. And then it came.
A hearty scoop of chicken salad with the little red grapes I love…on top of a fresh ingredient salad complete with homemade croutons, raw mushrooms and cold cucumber slices. I wanted to cry for joy, but instead I squealed like my FICO score got elevated 80 points by simply picking up the golden fork that laid by my pretty plate.
Used to be I saw the funnel cake as a reward for making it through coaster rides, but no more. It’s now all about the deceptively named chicken salad…salad. …Gawd. I got old 😕
That looks soooo good. I normally never stray beyond a sandwich with chicken salad, and my definition of a sandwich includes being able to pick it up with two hands. Being bigger than my mouth is fine. Grapes, celery chunks, a few pecan or walnut pieces, and a pair slice.
I'm the same way, I don't want frou frou whatever that is, but give me shredded chicken in miracle whip on sourdough, no grapes, no walnuts, just a good old fashioned chicken salad sammich.
