To be young again. Or, the Internet would have been handy 40 yrs ago, but stuff still worked out.
Best Labor Day weekend so far.

Labor Day Weekend years and years ago.
Let’s go to the beach in (northeast US).
So dumb we were.
We get up early Saturday for a four hour drive. Eight hours later we figure out our destination is one of the most popular areas for zillions of people. None of the phone booths (remember those?) have phone books (those too?). So we just start looking for vacancy signs. We don’t want to drive home.
We find one. Shabby-ish. The nightly cost was $92. Out the door. In 1986. I want to see the room. It’s a cabin with a kitchen in it. It had a front door and back door. Clean. It was bigger than our apartment.
We pulled around and parked in front of the unit. We took our stuff to thd room/cottage.
Looked like it was going to be a bust. We had no idea where to go in the dark. They would only let us book if we took at least two nights. That third night looked like money wasted. Fortunately we had a cooler with sandwiches so we didn’t have to go out in the night.
In the morning I had to go fetch the shoes we left in the car. I figured out why the place was so expensive. It was on the beach. The parking lot was metal matting at the top of the beach.
The weather was gorgeous and the town was set up for tourists. We had a great time. One of the best.
