California is leading the US economy. Should the rest of the states look to California as a model for sustained growth?

The 5th largest economy in the world (tied with the UK). 1/7th of the US GDP. Alternative energy, tightening of regulation on bonds and immigration are three of the factors cited to its success. Quite the opposite of what the current administration is trying to accomplish.

you know how expensive it is to live there. from what i hear california is going into a steep decline.. a lot of people on welfare and too much illegal immigration.

@SW-User you're hearing wrong. we lead the country in growth and immigration is a net plus for the economy.
@SW-User dude I'm pretty sure California is in the bottom 10 for welfare dependency lol
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
It is expensive though, you are correct there!
SW-User
i read something about the welfare in that state.

@SW-User Like DailyFlash said, you're hearing wrong. And there's a reason for that. It's because California scares a lot of Conservatives who'd prefer to mouth off about things like "freedom" but don't really live it.
California is doing great. Is it expensive to live in some places...yeah. But not others. It's a huge state. Way more than just L.A and San Francisco. Most of us also see immigration a little differently. It's part of who we are.
SW-User
@Ynotisay i read it from people who live there gosh.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User It is a giant state with a lot of regions. The big draw on welfare is in the rural areas not the cities. Since much of California is farmland that's always going to be an issue
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User Yeah, I hear you. A lot misinformation or old information. It wasn't that long ago under Swarzennegar when we weren't in very good shape.
SW-User
i dont think the whole state is that well off i think its in only in certain areas i think that is why i read that as it was recent.
SW-User
the thing about california you have to be rich to live there. if you are middle class and below you will be struggling.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User It's complicated for sure! We are an arbiter of what the rest of the country can expect. The New Energy economy forming may be a gamer changer though. It brings with it skilled and unskilled labor.
SW-User
not if the rest of the country gets to expensive to live there where would everyone else go if only the top percentage of income can afford to live there.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User well when something reaches a tipping point it changes. Everything is amplified here though.
SW-User
if everything is going to be like cali nothing will change. they need that high margin of cost in order to have a high gdp
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User well we'll see what the effects on a higher minimum wage and universal healthcare will have. As a small business owner, not having the expense of health insurance would be huge. I think it would attract a lot of companies to come here. Automatically adds 15-30% to your bottomline!
SW-User
i dont see having universal health care going to happen in the US tho.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User I think the Pandora's Box was opened with Obamacare. We spend more on healthcare per capita than countries with Universal Healthcare. Something is very wrong. It's becoming obvious that a for profit healthcare system is not about promoting health.
SW-User
well part of that is the fault of the insurers and part of that is greed of the hospitals and the cost of malpractice
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User I don't agree with everything you said but I respect that you're communicating like an adult and have some thought behind what you say. A lot of these discussions on here turn into childish insults.
SW-User
yeah thats why i dont like arguing on here. they tend to go that route. theres no thought in what they want to project they just end up twisting things just to say that they are right.
DailyFlash · 56-60, M
@SW-User Exactly. At face value, everything I said is correct. You pointed out some of the complicated areas. Too many people are afraid of this gray area but that's the world we live in and we have to deal with it to progress.
