Meh, just another site that bashes Christians. There's no real thinking involved.

@Sicarium: You must be a very fast reader if you read enough to form a reasoned opinion already. Or are you like most christians, unable to reason?
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@suzie1960: Actually, I'm an atheist. I just don't feel the need to use that to pretend I'm better than anyone else. I've run across the site before. Even if I hadn't, scanning the headlines and major topics was enough when the site pretends to be debunking but really it's just bashing.

If you want an echo chamber, go for it. But that's all it is. Pretending otherwise is foolish.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Sicarium: It contains a lot of reasoned arguments so is a useful resource for countering christian lies. That's something I had to do when my children were younger and christians in school were attempting to impose their beliefs on them.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@suzie1960: Yeah, "most Christians are unable to reason" (your words) and "Dr. David Madison on the ignorance of Christians" (the site) are entirely reasoned arguments.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Sicarium: Christianity is based on myths, not logical argument based on established facts. There is no reasoning involved and they argue from ignorance, that is, they assert their beliefs are true because they have not been proven false. If they applied logic they would also be forced to belive in the Invisible Pink Unicorn and a myriad of other entities that have not been proven to not exist.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@suzie1960: Yeah, it's easy to be better than other if you pretend they're all stupid.

There was a time when black holes hadn't been proven to exist yet, and lot's very smart people were convinced they were real. By your standard, all of them were irrational idiots.

Look, I've known many highly intelligent Christians. Far too many for me take this nonsense seriously. I don't care if you want to pretend their all stupid, irrational, or ignorant. To be honest, that's more a reflection of you than them because if you could logically and rationally debunk Christianity, you wouldn't have to resort to that nonsense.

And here's the catch, you're calling people stupid for having faith in something you don't. You have something that you do have faith in though. And all those insults you just used, they could just as easily be used on you or anyone with any faith in something at all. So, anyone. It's pointless and it's childish.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Sicarium: Einstein's theories (that's "theories" in the scientific sense, not just a vague idea) led to the conclusion that Black Holes existed, they just hadn't been discovered at the time.

There are some intelligent people who have found claiming to be christian and going through the motions can give them certain advantages - so that's what they do. I know some who do that and I can't say I blame them.

Christians often claim a belief in Faeries and similar entities is "stupid", "illogical" or "childish" yet they can't see the same description can be equally applied to their beliefs. Is that really indicative of a reasoning person?
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@suzie1960 Scientific theories are not scientific laws. You should know that.

So now you're telling me you can read the hearts and minds of people? Please. You can't. You're projecting.

Assuming your right, your argument is "they do it too." This isn't kindergarten. And that is not a logical or rational rebuttal.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Sicarium Scientific theories are explanations of observed events. They are rigourly tested and can be used to make predictions - as Einstein's theories predicted Black Holes.

Where did I even suggest I can read the hearts and minds of people? I know some "christians" are only pretending to believe because they've explicitly told me that. We all have a good laugh at how easily other (real) christians are taken in.

I'm not simply saying "they do it too", I'm pointing out that what they say about other beliefs also applies to theirs but they just can't see it.

Predictions do not equal proof of existence, doesn't matter how you want spin it. By your own standard, anyone who believes in anything science related that has not been proven yet is an idiot. That's the standard you created.

Right here...
There are some intelligent people who have found claiming to be christian and going through the motions can give them certain advantages
I could say the exact same thing about you.

I don't know how else to say it, I'm not interested in your line of attack. It isn't rational or logical. It's great in an echo chamber, useless outside of that. Since that's all you seem interested in, good night.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Sicarium No, that was the standard you created and projected onto me. Science is based on evidence. I said scientific theories allow predictions to be made. Some of those predictions will be of things that have not, at the time been proven. Subsequent proof of their existence goes to support the theory.

As I said, some intelligent people have explicity told me they just pretend to be christians because they've found it can give them certain advantages in some areas. Did you miss that bit?

If you're not interested in what I have to say, I don't understand why you even bothered to respond.
