Why do adults think their superior or something?

I was arguing with my uncle and I slammed a door. He said that if I slammed a door on him again then I'd be sorry. if I'd said that to him then he wouldn't be happy

You both to show each other more respect.
But being raised by an unstable parent with a lot of depression and anger issues some do forget to show respect to anyone they know they 'don't have to' but these are not frequent cases as I have seen
