Why we expect so much from men?

If women have freedom to choose whether they want to be housewife or work outside then why can't men choose? Why men does not have freedom to play house husband or stay at home dad? Why we always expect men to find a job and earn money?

I think everyone should work and earn money for a while to learn to earn and appreciate the energy and time that goes into receiving that money. Then after people become a couple what they choose to do if their head are kept above water is their business as far as I am concerned.
