So what's the logic behind the imperial system?

I think inch and feet had something to do with coins that are laid next to each other or something.

@Bottomschmackenloudenboomer: Yeah but they don't seem to make much sense. Like 12 inch are a feet, and 3 feet are a yard, but then suddenly one thousand something yards is a mile?
There is no system :(
