If so, do you know what triggers them and are they scary?

Yes, I've had dozens, and yes they're really scary. It feels like I'm dying, I feel sick and can't breathe and my hands go numb, and I'm rolled up in a ball saying "oh my god oh my god oh my god" for the half an hour or so that it lasts. It feels like it will never end.
@crossproduct: It's horrible. I don't get into a fetal position...yet. I hold on to furniture so I won't fly away. They are horrible aren't they? I feel sad that you go through them like that
