- Temperature: must be perfect. Not cold, not too warm (err in the side of warm though)
- Hungry? Thirsty?... Eat / drink something
- White noise: for some people, having a steady noise, like a fan, helps...
- Read something engaging. You may not get to sleep, but at least would be using your time wisely. Same with listening to music.
- You can do "That What Shall Not Be Named", it may make you soothed and relaxed
