Why do people care about others weight?

I read an article about a girl going to prom and she posted her prom pic of her and her boyfriend and someone said "wow he still loves you even though you're fat" like I don't understand why does ones weight matter to anyone else?

most people who go outof their way to do and say mean things like that, are usually insecure, all sorts of things. they need to make themselves feel better in some way by feeling they have an advantage in some way over the other person, even if it's something as little as weighing less than a complete stranger, or someone who doesn't cross their mind once they go home. it's one thing to genuinely tell someone you are concerned with their weight if you're close to them, but an entire other to go out of your way to belittle or ridicule a total stranger because of what you :"think" they need to be doing. being thinner doesn't mean more attractive, nor does it mean one has a better personality by any means
