Where is the logic in this?

So I got roped into some cheeky English exam to prove my superior English skills for a German. Thing is, it's for a specific branch of jobs - mine being focused on IT - however the test itself is in British English, which doesn't seem logical to me since most everything IT related is in American English.
Why they do dis?

@Azrael: I doubt they're stupid. They are teachers and all. Unless teachers are stupid. That'd explain a lot.
