I Am Reading the Bible

I read it when I was a christian, that when I found it is just a collection of badly written BS. I don't suppose the film is any better. Definitely not recommended and I certainly wouldn't want my children to read it.

I was brought up as Christian but questioned it for a long time, finally the day came where I woke up and it just didn't make sense anymore. Move forward to The Bible the book which over 99%* of Christians claim is 'the word of God', well if that's what God wants and allows, I'm out because quite frankly he sounds like The Devil to me, with his destruction, murder, pillaging, slavery and rape.
* I once met a Christian who said he couldn't accept The Bible as the word of God, he didn't go into his reasons, he was a vicar.

What I have seen about The Bible, I'm afraid does not say this is the word of a good god to me, so even if there was just a little evidence that pointed towards a god, I would not be a follower. As it is there is no evidence whatsoever so it doesn't really matter. I feel sad for people who do believe and it makes them unhappy, those who believe and it enhances their lives I don't have a problem with.

Read it years ago, when I had a very bed experience, and tried to get the 'help' others claimed it gave. Nope, didn't help, remained an atheist and received scientifically proven treatment.

@Angel01: Xtians twist everything. They claim their god is all powerful but it tacitly admit it's no match for Satan. ;)

i tried to tell someone that their god was an 'impotent little godling with delusions of grandeur, and an inability to affect affairs on earth'. Apparently that offended him and he now avoids me.

Some of the Old Testament stories are horrendous and do not paint God in a favorable light

I find Ecclesiastes to be a valuable book.

The message has to do with taking the good from life as we know it here and now. There's no dogma in it.

@Rambler: I believe that one basically says when you're dead, you're dead. Something about a live dog being better off than a dead lion and not being able to collect your wages.

More that we can't know more than this life while we're in it. I can live with that.
