How old were you when you started to realize you were capable of taking care of yourself?

15 or so. I was a pretty independent kid. I threatened to move out at barely 17. I made it to 18.

I could do everything necessary to take care of myself by about 12. Once I started working, taking care of myself was much more appealing than living with controlling parents.
