Why doesn't anyone ever call to cancel anymore instead of leaving people hanging?

Seriously, how hard is it to grab your cell phone, click on a name in your contacts, call the person you need to cancel on and say, "I'm sorry, something came up. I won't be able to make it" instead of leaving them hanging wondering when you will be arriving every time you tell them you will be stopping by? I don't get it. If you can call them to let them know you're stopping by, why can't you call to let them know you need to cancel if the need arises? Is it just me or is it really that hard to find someone with that courtesy these days? I haven't met anyone who is courteous enough to call if they need to cancel a visit or anything like that in years. Years! It's really annoying because it really shouldn't be that complicated. With everyone owning a cell phone these days it should be the easiest thing in the world.
P.S: Yes, I was just left hanging again by the repairman who was a no-show for the third time in a row without notice hence my frustration.

goodness, three times? no wonder you're frustrated! seems a failure from the get-go with that company. apparently his boss cares little. they may be over-extended and chicken-shit at the same time?
