What do you think of people that make you take off your shoes when you come over?

Their home, their rules I suppose. I have a longtime friend who was born in Japan and has tatami mats on her floors. When I know I'll be visiting her I wear shoes I can kick off and place on a shelf by the door. And I wear socks.
