Is anyone else NOT looking forward to filing their taxes this year?

I'm walking around the store and people are commenting on how they'll spend their returns. Then they walk up to the register and they pay with their EBT cards... 🤦🏻‍♀️ Nothing wrong with public assistance but if you're getting a return shouldn't that return be spent on bettering your life and your childs life rather than the latest phones, gadgets or over priced sneakers?

I wonder if the Donald can hook me up with his account and if there are any loopholes I can take advantage of 🤦🏻‍♀️ Jk
I'd never do that. I think that'd come around and bite me in the ass.
I hate that I'm going to probably end up paying more than what they already took from my paychecks last year... 😖

I think it's interesting that even welfare is taxed. Even if the government is subsidizing people who would be starving and indigent (based on the premise), they still want their kickback.

It is but my step sister being one of these people is getting back every dime she paid (it was deducted from payroll) and then some
She's getting near 8k
I never got that much of a return - not even when I was head of household I guess I "make too much"
@Tristemuneca: As a "single no children" woman in a "certain" tax bracket who doesn't own a house Uncle Sam figures I don't need my money at all. I've been paying. I should own a jet by now.

@bijouxbroussard: that really sucks 😖
You don't just NEED your money you DESERVE it!
@Tristemuneca: I always thought that was the idea of working all of one's life. I've never received a penny of public assistance. I do believe that if the able-bodied on assistance had to do some type of work ("workfare") or turn in grades indicating school attendance it would be more just. And more people would be inclined to see it as transitional rather than as a lifestyle. I believe most people do use it as a life raft and move on as soon as they can, but that's not who you hear about.

@bijouxbroussard: I've been on assistance for a short period of time. Medical and wic, and I got like $90 a month in food stamps.
My oldest was 3.5 and my youngest was a few months old - I wasn't working because I had had a high risk pregnancy and I was fired for having to take time off to attend doctors appointments- I qualified for unemployment which I was on for a few months too then my husband had lost his job which is when we got the assistance mostly for the kids. My husband found a job not long after - part time and I got back to work shortly after I think it was like 3 months (that's the amount of time you were granted when I was on it before you had to re-certify) it definitely helped but I wanted more than just getting by. I need to know my kids next meals are secure, and that they have a roof over their heads. When taxes came around we saved every penny left after catching up with late bills.
