I once used a knife to cut the seatbelt in a vehicle. It had been involved in an accident, the driver was unconscious and the seatbelt was restricting his breathing. He was a large man and I was alone at the time so I couldn't move him by myself. I cut the seatbelt to let him breath properly until the ambulance arrived.
On another occasion I called out an ambulance for a man who was bleeding profusely and for some weird reason the medic didn't have a scissors to cut bandages with. So I lent her my knife to cut them so she could do her job properly.
Blades have many uses and it is always a good idea to carry one.
