Not in any major cities unfortunately. Rents are brutal in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Toronto at least. Montreal has famously cheap rent, but 1000 a month is still really low to live off of.

That said, my in-laws lived in a small town in Saskatchewan and the housing there was so cheap it was almost free. There's a reason for that - nobody wanted to live there, lol.

Weird place. National flower is roadkill. Everyone needs Rider pride a Co-Op number.
I am thinking either Emerson or Winnipeg since I know those cities really well. Given my druthers, I'd rather be in Guatajuates Mexico, it's a beautiful town, lot's of expats there. For $500 a month I could have a two story two bedroom apartment, the Mexicans there love American expats. medical is free even for us. I can have a beautiful dinner for $3.00 dollars, utilities are paid. Just not sure how I could transport my kitties, they are my family. LOL...Oh, and the drug cartels aren't around that scenic town.

@Coyotedave611: Drugs not around a town. Funny

Emerson is small enough the rents may be extremely cheap. A one bedroom apartment in Winnipeg will probably be 800 bucks or so.
Emerson would be my first choice anyway, I'm pretty much a country boy, cities are fine for recreation, thanks so much for your help, I appreciate the information.
@MikefromEP: Oh hell, drugs are everywhere now anyway, but thanks a lot for your help Mike, lot's of food for thought, my partner is a handyman so we could probably supplement our income a bit. I seriously want to leave the USA

@MikefromEP: You're probably right but I'm going to continue researching this. I don't want to be dramatic, or start a political fracas but mark my words, by midsummer Trump will be implementing martial law, there are going to be horrific rioting, 100 times worse than the riots in LA back in the sixties, people in my retirement complex are already stockpiling food. I would go so far as to say it could very well be another civil war. A dismal outlook I know but wait and see.
