I've been thinking about getting my first tattoo soon, and I wanted the Gemini symbol, since it's simple and is only really four lines. But then I got caught up in looking at various pictures of Gemini tattoos...so which do you think looks better? Something simple like the last one or something more elaborate?

I like the last one for it's simple, clean but elegant lines. I'm planning on getting a Gemini tattoo for my oldest niece (on me that is, lol). Anyway, her names means "descended from Royalty," so her tattoo is going to be twin scepters, since Gemini is the sign of The Twins.

That sounds really cool! I thought about getting a lot of twin-related tattoos. First the simple generic Gemini symbol, then the Yin-Yang symbol, then a Caduceus which is the two snakes intertwining on a staff; stuff like that.

My siblings and I are also planning on tattoos involving the Yin-Yang symbol. :-) with my sister it'll be a Zia symbol with the Yin-Yang in the center, (we were raised in New Mexico). With my brother; we're both Scorpios, so ours will be one black and one white scorpion with the tails intertwined to form the symbol.

@PeanutsauntieP1982: That sounds really cool! Do you have any tattoos right now?

Yep! I have "Lifly", which is my last name in Olde English, the accronym "PAST" for "Preemies Are So Tough" to remind myself that if I survived being born early, it's gonna take a hell of a ton to knock me out! Those two are on my left arm, midway between my elbow and shoulder, "Lifly" is in black, and "PAST" is in turquoise.

Then I have a winking smiley face with her tongue sticking out, (she's yellow), and a smiley star grinning rather cheekily! (Think:the Super Mario Bros star, but orangish yellow). The two smilies are the begining of a smiley-face arm band. I got them because I deal with depression, and seeing a smiley face has always made me smile...that, and I've always had a love/hate relationship with Super Mario Bros, LMFAO!! Those two are above my right elbow. Then I have a blue and white nautical star on my right shoulder. It'll be part of a bigger design featuring the Dallas City skyline as it was in 1988, the year I lived there, and then how I think it'll look in 2060 because I love the author JD Robb, whose main character, Eve Dallas, who was born in Dallss. :-)

@PeanutsauntieP1982: That all sounds so cool! I'm so indecisive I don't know how I'll even come up with all the tattoo's I'll get in the future XD

How does getting a tattoo feel, to you? Everyone feels pain differently. Does it still hurt like a b*tch, or are you numb to the pain at this point?

It hurts, but like how scratching yourself on a branch feels. But then for most people, about 10-15 minutes into the tattoo stop feeling pain and feel pleasure instead. This is because of the endorphins your body produces to counteract the pain. After a tattoo I usually feel tingly and buzzy, and I love how it feels. The aftercare isn't hard either. You treat it like you would any open wound, keep it clean and moisturized. Also, don't scratch! When it itches, (and it will!), scratch something else instead. It distracts your brain. (Same thing goes for after surgery, don't scratch the itch!!) If you've ever stubbed your toe, been hit in the head with a ball, smashed a finger, broken a bone, or fallen really hard, tattoos are very minor pain. All those things hurt far worse than a tattoo.

Oh yeah, don't worry about coming up with ideas. When you see something you want, you'll know. But remember this too; a tattoo is permanent, unless you have the money to get it removed. So think long and hard about the design you want. I thought about my first tattoo for about a year before I got it. (Lifly), and then I shopped around for an artist. That's also a hard thing. Look at people's tattoos. If the style of one really impresses you, ask where they got it. Keep a running list of the shops and artists at those shops that you like. Most people will be happy to tell you their artist. That's what I did...I knew the shop to do my first when I saw a BEAUTIFUL portrait of Audrey Hepburn this guy had on his arm. We chatted for about 30 minutes about tattoos! LOL!!
