Why my friend calls me “Swarm”
A good friend of mine that I’ve had for the past 2ish years calls me by the nickname Swarm, and the story behind it is kinda funny. My friend M is schizoaffective, and around when we first started talking (I met him on the now defunct anonymous location-based app Whisper) he was in active psychosis. At this point in time, to me he was just this weird guy who kept texting me weird stuff after we exchanged numbers so I could sell him some of my vyvanse. Apparently I had not texted him back in a while, and he texted me something along the lines of “why are you ignoring me, girl?” since he called me girl, I thought a fun way to respond would be to quote a line from the song Cheerleader by Ashnikko. The line goes “I’m not a girl, I’m a swarm of bees.”
After I responded with that, he began calling me swarm, and continued to when we hung out in person (how we became actual good friends that would hang out irl is kind of a long story, but yeah).
He’s currently out of psychosis and has switched to a better medication, and I only recently found this out actually, but at the time, when I said that, he thought I was literally some kind of terrifying mutant creature with bugs flying around me and out of my mouth and stuff. He took “I’m not a girl, I’m a swarm of bees” wayyy too seriously lol.
