@MartinTheFirst: Digital image sensors are sensitive to infrared and they put filters in cameras to block it so it doesn't mess up the colours. The infrared from my stove is enough to overwhelm the filter in the 7, but not the one in my SLR that I took the first picture with.

Try pointing a remote control at a webcam and pressing buttons. You should see flashes of light.
