It's kind of hard to have an ideal partner when you're one of those people who only ever feels connected to people who are toxic to you.

I think I gave up on ideals a long time ago. People are a lot of things, but almost as much as anything else, they're flawed. I don't think the concept of flaws works with idealism. There are traits I value more than others, and there are several people that possess such traits, but I don't buy the idea of "the one". I'll take whoever is compatible enough to build a future with, and if that fails, then I'll find someone else

No, I don't think so. But ideal is like perfection. It's something to strive for, not to achieve.
