That was how a lot of society thought back then.
Did you saw the one when they spit out the watermelon seeds like a machine gun?

People weren't as easily offended at that time period.

Some of those cartoons were straight up demeaning and racist to minorities lol, During the times were racism was a real problem in american society.

@NightGalleries: No doubt but putting big lips on a person in a purposely disproportionate cartoon world is a whole different thing.

Tennessee alas that is how they where perceived to americans in them days but things are different now a days and would be considered unacceptable if it was done today

Simple, because the people who made the cartoons were racist.

@GoldenXena: How can they be racist if they didn't intend to do that?
GoldenXena · 36-40, T
Because being a racist is not intention dependent. You don't need to wring your hands with 'I am going to do X nefarious thing with the expressed goal of harassing you or dehumanizing you based on your race' going through your head. In fact a lot of the bias that leads to that is generally taken for granted by the people with them. I think Avenue Q said it best, everyone's a little bit racist sometimes, the creators of those cartoons were just more than most we have today.
