Is praying just an old fashioned way of making a wish?

Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
Be careful with these topics, almost every religion has a special punishment for those who seek to dissuade someone of their faith.

I don't wish to dissuade anything or anyone. I just like to hear peoples opinions but I don't always agree with them

@mrgreeen: Oh but I think you do, even if you did not mean to the very question is suggestive of a non belief in prayer.

That's your opinion and I don't agree@Subsumedpat:

I don't think of praying as making a wish but that is just me. you can pray for different reasons...to give thanks, to ask for help etc. and i don't think it is too old fashioned either. i pray all the time

As I like to say, faith is just a wish.

No, definitely not the same.

It could be also affirmative statements, or act of self-discipline.

@mrgreeen: Yeah it is. Some people pray to be self-accepting, by praying to accept things they cannot change in calmer way; in a way those people are learning discipline; since the pray for these things on a daily basis, their mindsets shapes the way they want to appear to the world. Sometimes, it's just a form of mild meditation.

I don't agree at all@Nefertum:

Yes. God is deemed to have super-strong wishing power and people must wish for things from God (being said powerless themselves). There's a whole lot of wishing going on.
