Why is a baby bat not called a bitten?

Well that's a good name too I suppose. I still like bitten though.

But aren't baby errrrrthangs supposed to be cute? I thought the cuteness was an evolutionary measure designed to prevent them getting left near some hungry lions when they won't stop crying.
