Why do you think people become vegan?

Seems like there's a lot of cynicism regarding this lifestyle, but maybe that's just because sardonicism is a popular pastime on the internet. Rather than focus on those antagonizers, I'm curious to hear what you honestly believe motivates people to become vegan

The way the animals are treated or how they're killed or that something they see as similar to themselves is a meal. Maybe the taste and texture. The things they talk about when they try to get people to stop makes me think it's all pretty much about disgust.
