Dark matter can be clearly detected in the orbital velocities of stars within other galaxies. There needs to be a LOT of additional non-visible matter to make the visible stars rotate the cores of galaxies at the rates we're observing. Dark matter is also detected in the gravitational lensing we observe near distant galaxies.

Dark energy is also known as the "Hubble tension." It refers to the sets of measurements that appear to show that the expansion of spacetime is accelerating, rather than decelerating as would happen in a pure gravitational system.

@ElwoodBlues amazing all the things you have time to look up while being unemployed and living in your mother's basement. Maybe someday my life can be as shallow and lonely so I, too, can spend my days trying to impress people I don't know with my google searches... hahaha...

@CougarLisa I suppose I should be flattered that you, a single lady and self described "cougar" pays me so much attention here. Unfortunately for you, I've been happily married for over 25 years while raising two sons, so I'm off the market. BTW, I pay a healthy tax bill every year and I do what I like with my time.
P.S. I majored in physics as an undergrad; so I'm a little more qualified than most to discuss orbital velocity curves, the Hubble tension, and gravitational lensing.

@CougarLisa The idea of dark matter has been around for almost 100 years. It's common physics

@JimboSaturn I am aware... thanks all the same.

@CougarLisa Then why are you disputing Ellewood?

@CougarLisa says
Or was that "I am aware" just a bluff??
I am aware... thanks all the same.
Good! Than maybe you can explain the Hubble Constant to all the non-scientists here who might be interested!!Or was that "I am aware" just a bluff??
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@JimboSaturn do I answer to you? Do I really have to explain "sarcasm" to you?
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@ElwoodBlues Oh, I see... I have to prove myself to you...lol... see, that's the difference between a guy living in his mom's basement and someone who has actually achieved something in life.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@CougarLisa Why would his knowledge of physics, that which you agree with, make you angry at him?
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@ElwoodBlues I will say; you reek of the Dunning-Kruger effect!
ElwoodBlues · M
@CougarLisa So that "I am aware" is just a bluff. Good to know.
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@ElwoodBlues Dunning-Kruger effect... your new name!
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@ElwoodBlues I'm sure you're looking that up...lol... so you can come back and impress us all with your knowledge of it...lmfao...
CougarLisa · 36-40, F
@ElwoodBlues still reading???...lmfao

@CougarLisa Still responding??

@CougarLisa You really are out of your depth here.
