People have notoriously bad memories. It's why several states are trying to revise the admissibility of eyewitness testimonies in court. There's a lot of psychology papers that show time and again that memory recall is faulty and unreliable. Our memories are easily manipulated by the biases we see them through. The Mandela effect doesn't really have anything solid to support it other than our demonstrably undependable memories

They should stop calling it the Mandela effect. I attended history classes in school. Nobody I know thinks Nelson Mandela died in prison. We all know he died recently at an old age.
Instead they can call it the Stupid effect. Where millions of Americans still don't know the correct spelling of irrelevant things.
