What's your best "small world" story?

Most people have "small world" stories--meeting a person from your small hometown on the other side of the world on the only day you'd both be in the same spot, etc.

What's yours?

I don't know if this is the right context, but at 14 I became a huge fan of the M*A*S*H TV series. My second duty station in the Army was Camp Red Cloud, which was in Uijongbu, Korea. I saw the final episode of the series while I was stationed there...it was pretty surreal!
@Sibly OH WOW...

It had to be very odd and impactful.

What do you remember?

@SomeMichGuy Just various lines from the series would recur to me at times. Unfortunately, one of them was Hawkeye saying, "I always wanted to upchuck on Uijongbu, and I thought the time was ripe," lol! (The national drink there contains formaldehyde...) Also, I remember an episode where the character was named "Chon Wa", but that is actually the Korean word for telephone! And I wound up being admitted to the same hospital as Hawkeye too, the 121st Evac. So strange 🥴.
@Sibly What did you need at the hospital? Were you wounded?
Sibly · 56-60, F
@SomeMichGuy No, not wounded. I lost my oldest brother right before I joined the military and the grief finally caught up with me. It was a crazy year: April my brother died from AIDS, July I got married, and November I was in basic training. I went through basic like a cross between Forrest Gump and Private Benjamin.🫣
@Sibly ...wow...what a hard, hard year.

@SomeMichGuy Thank you so much for understanding! 🫂

@SomeMichGuy It's hard to say if I have dealt with them enough. I could use some more support, but I don't want to have to deal with the VA where I am now. The system here is not like it was in my home state and the laws here are different too. That's part of the reason why I am giving this place a try. It's a bit safer...
@Sibly Well, I hope you find the right people to whom to talk.

Many here have had trauma in their lives, and some might even have similar trauma.

But feel free to talk any time. 😊

@SomeMichGuy I appreciate that also! To be honest, I am a little intimidated by some of the entries I have seen here. I don't pay that much attention to politics any more; makes me too nervous!
@Sibly Then stay away from that and do other things. 😊

Tell us of Korea; as a person who lived there, you know things which most of us don't.

@SomeMichGuy Hmm, not sure what to tell. I could freak some people out though... I was dating a Korean national at one time though, and some of his friends were not too thrilled with it. We went out one night and they ordered all traditional Korean dishes to see what I would do. A small live octopus was put on my plate, and the server chopped all the tentacles off and looked at me. I dug right in, it doesn't get any fresher than that; but it was hard to eat it with the tentacles wrapping themselves around my chopsticks! At least they didn't order kaygogi (dog)!
