It's astonishing to me that-- even extemporaneously-- our new president cannot form cogent thoughts and sentences. Anyone else find this troubling?

Asked by Morning Joe who he talks with consistently about foreign policy, Trump responded, "I'm talking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I've said a lot of things."

Trump at the Iowa rally: "People don't know how great you are. People don't know how smart you are. These are the smart people. These are the smart people. These are really the smart people. And they never like to say it. But I say it. And I'm a smart person. These are the smart. We have the smartest people. We have the smartest people. And they know it. And some say it. But they hate to say it. But we have the smartest people."

This is just an extended version of the kind of inarticulate nonsense we heard from him throughout the campaign, yet the Hillary-hate was so strong that he still managed to get elected. I’m tempted to say that those who supported this profoundly ignorant man will deserve the awful stuff I fear is going to happen after he takes office, except the rest of us will also be affected and we won’t deserve it. I honestly do hope we’ve got it wrong about him and he will turn out to be a good president, but based on what I’ve seen so far, I’m afraid I don’t see any reason for optimism.
I still don't understand the depth of the Hillary-hate.

Bizarre question: If Bill Clinton was able to run again for POTUS, do you think Bill would have beaten Trump?

I'm not sure I understand it either. It's like some of these people have been brainwashed into believing the most outlandish, demonstrably untrue charges against her. I really think they're out of touch with reality.

That's a good question. I'm inclined to think Bill Clinton would have beaten Trump. Where Hillary lost the election was with blue collar workers in Pennsylvania and the Midwest, people who voted for Obama and Bill Clinton previously. As Bill is generally regarded as a pretty good president who governed in an era of prosperity, I think he would have gotten the votes of enough of these Democratic Party defectors to carry PA, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin and won the election.
@Rutterman: I agree with you. It's perplexing to me that the blue collar workers in Pennsylvania and the Midwest, etc. would still vote for Bill with all his "indiscretions". Sure, he governed in an era of prosperity, but they don't think Hillary is capable of the same? I'm fully aware of Hillary's flaws. However, IMO her mistakes pale in comparison to Bill's. And don't get me started about Trump and other presidential candidates who seem to have gotten a free pass. Basically, I feel it was a gender issue. If Bill would have won but Hillary didn't??????

@RootinTootinHighFalutin: Of course we’ll never really know how Bill Clinton would have done in the election last year. He’s obviously a seriously flawed person, but my guess is that voters would have given more weight to his record as president than his character deficits. It’s a different situation with Hillary as she has never served as president and we can only speculate about what kind of president she would be. What we can say is that she does have a significant record of public service, can speak knowledgably about the issues, and seems fully capable of handling the job of president. That’s more than can be said about the one who just got elected. And though she has her flaws, they do indeed pale in comparison to those of her husband, not to mention Donald Trump. Is there a gender issue here? You be the judge.
@Rutterman: Thanks for your response, Buddy. 😉
