I know nothing.
but I'm considering doing either Japanese or Mandarin.
Which one do you think I should take?

Since you speak English, Japanese will be easier to learn than Mandarin.

yeah, you'll need both sides of your brain when speaking Mandarin apparently. for most other languages you only need one side so I guess it harder.
Well... Japanese grammar is quite simple and ALL Japanese sounds are also found in English, so pronunciation of new words won't be that difficult. Mandarin is a pitched language, so a word with an upward vowel inflection will mean something completely different as the same word, but with a downward vowel inflection. Something you don't really have to worry about while speaking English.

@Ax17x7: wow that's easy then....
don't Japanese and Mandarin have the same grammar?
I don't know. Never tried learning Mandarin.

I travelled in Japan for 6 weeks and used a phrase book along the way. By the end of my trip, I could say pretty much anything I wanted in Japanese, with the help of the phrase book. Problem was I couldn't understand when others spoke to me 😑

@Ax17x7: O. I have family in Japan so I go there often. they always pressure me to learn Japanese cause it's hard to communicate sometimes.
