People say they want balance but balance means no quarter for anyone. Balance means everyone has to put in work and prove themselves. No exceptions.
I think what most people really want in their heart of hearts is an imbalance that is favorable to them; they want to put in 15% and for everyone else to foot that remaining 85.
You see this whenever you meet someone who is clearly falling short, and when someone calls them on it, they cry victim and act as if they're being bullied or singled out or that the world has just been so cruel and unfair to them personally.
And what sucks most of all is that people like that are what people who enjoy the favorable side of the current imblances in society use as an excuse to perpetuate the disparity.
They say "well, look what happens when we give leverage to the oppressed; they squander it! Thats exactly why they deserve to be underfoot!"
It's a hard thing, separating those who want better for themselves and are willing to work for it from those who just want to leech off the effort.
