When we built a bridge over passing the interstate, we worked at night 1 night so law enforcement could close the section, while the crane set the carrying beams of the bridge. We had only a short time to set up the crane, land the beams, break down the crane and clear the road.

@Zonuss Thank You Sir.
In my lifetime I have worked all sorts of shifts.... Days, 2nd, 3rd and even rotating shifts of
Two day shifts then
Eight hours off then
Two 3rd shifts then
Eight hours off then
Two 2nd shifts then a couple of days off.
Spent 10 years working this ^^^ rotating shift work....
Then I changed jobs. I worked 2nd shift for a well-known manufacturing company and then moved to 3rd shift for a couple of years and then moved to the front office where I worked days for a couple of years.
Right now.... I own a small specialty manufacturing company and am "semi-retired"....which means I work when I feel like it and take all the time off I want.
I didn't really like shift work..... seems like you are always tired..... but it is what it is, and it paid the bills.

I currently work evening shift. The hours suit me well.
I've also worked the night shift. It's okay, but it takes some getting used-to. Day shift is the worst as far as I'm concerned.

Yep. I worked 11 pm to 7:30 am for a couple years when I was young. That was the fun shift and I had a good time. I did a year of 8 pm to 2 am to minimize daycare when my youngest was a baby. That was a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, but those hours are harder when you’re older and have kids. lol

I worked 3rd for nearly 3 years. 2nd for 2. Days for the last 30. 3rd sucked...I could never get my sleep schedule right. I was fine at work, but outside...shit. 2nd actually was pretty good because you had the better part of the day to get things done before work.

the entire time i worked for United Artists -through h.s. and college- i worked nights, or 2nd shift. i also worked doubles most weekends and holidays. it was very convenient and it suited me because i could do homework at work.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@SW-User Convenience is key.
It all used to happen as per the then need. Night sleep is essential for day job, just sharing.

i worked mids for 2 1/2 years straight in the mid 80s. I pissed off my LDO in front of the whole department. I stood up for some people so i would do it again.

Yes, most of my life I've been on the night shift or 3rd shift. I'm on days now and it's great!!!
I’ve never worked the night shift (I don’t think I ever could)… my husband did wen we first met
Zonuss · 41-45, M
@submissivelittlewoman Cool.

I have and I hated it. 5 days of night shift and then you try to live a normal weekend. It isn't healthy.
SW-User
Well, I used to work at a night club, so yes^^
Not working night now, but I might if they need me to.

Every week at least 2 night shifts. Dont mind it at all. Less bosses and people around.
PhoenixPhail · M
Yes, the graveyard shift - from 11pm to 7am. I hated it.

yes i worked 11-7 for like a week or two it was miserable. i couldnt sleep all day with the nanny and two toddlers up. i had a 45 minute highway commute. i was driving off the road falling asleep coming home.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
I've had several jobs where I either had to work overnight completely or where my shift started at 3 or 4:00 in the morning honestly there's pros and cons to each type of shift and I'm pretty good at switching back-and-forth but I do prefer the day shift because then you can have a normal life and a normal sleep schedule.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I've worked every shift there is. Days are best, but last year I worked 4x10 hour days, overnight, totally by myself, and I'm not sure I enjoyed a job more than that.
DDonde · 31-35, M
Yes! 12 hr overnight shift. Did it for a year.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
