Similar Worlds Review
I've been going through the reviews people made about this site, and I've spent some time thinking.
I think a lot of reviews are valid, but they only capture the emotions and feelings on one side.
"Similar Worlds didn't give me what I want so it sucks!"
You're reviewing the website. Not the people in it.
I think SimilarWorlds is a nice website. Good design, easy to navigate and use.
I wish the Questions and Stories were separate. If the admins read this, I have another suggestion. A separate tab for Status. That would distinguish short posts from the Questions and Stories.
It would be nice to have tabs on the user profile. Questions, Stories, Status, Replies. Each tab would display the related content underneath it.
I have an even more important suggestion: Get rid of any algorithm that chooses who's posts are visible to a user. Make all posts visible. If you'd prefer to test this, add another tab on the Home page that shows All posts.
Home, Medium, Top, New, All, Images, History.
You have no idea how useful this will be in connecting people. I know a lot of people who'll be happy to just see everyone's posts, and they can choose which ones to comment on.
There are so many decent people on this site but I can't see their posts. I doubt they see mine. I have to go to the People page and scroll down the usernames and click on individual profiles to see them. Or I have to pay attention to the Recent Activity sidebar on the right to see what other people are commenting on. Usually none of those posts appear on my Home page.
This algorithm won't help connect people. The algorithm can't read minds. The algorithm doesn't know whose posts I want to see and whom I'd want to talk to.
The algorithm can only predict or make the best guess. And it's not doing a good job of it.
Give it a thought. Make all users visible to each other. Make all posts visible on the Home page.
I think a lot of the reviews captured the users' experience with people. Not the site.
It's the people that are a problem. Not the site.
People are people. They come with quirks and annoyances and mental issues and a range of IQ's. They have their individual likes and dislikes and characters and personalities. They have their own preferences and expectations.
You can't like them all. And you can't ban them all.
If you go to any other social network, and you get attached to it, and you get addicted to it, and everyone speaks their minds and everyone does what they want, you will feel overwhelmed, inevitably.
The biggest and most important feature of this site is freedom to speak your mind.
Most people don't understand this concept of freedom because they haven't been on other social networks. There are social networks for right wingers and left wingers, LGBT and straight people, religious people and atheists. But none of them cater to all the above. They're all exclusive. It means you won't see different opinions. You won't see a variety of content. Everything will be similar. It's not a healthy place for your mind. You don't want an echo chamber. It will give you a misconception or misperception of the real world; an illusion so to speak. If you don't see people with different opinions or views, you might be shocked when you go out in the real world.
Most people don't like when other disagree with them. But it's an eye opener. It gives you a moment to pause and reflect, and question yourself.
This is the only site that still has freedom of speech, if you believe in it.
Yes, there are a lot of immoral and highly s3xual people on this site. Yes, there are a lot of attention wh0res on this site. Yes, there are a lot of nvde posts and sh!tposts. Inevitably, people collide and clash all the time.
But that's what freedom entails.
You can't truly have freedom without accepting the voices of all the above.
So you don't like some people; fvck 'em.
Fvck 'em.
Don't let them ruin your experience on this site. You do what you want. You live your life.
Don't take it out on the site. The site has to cater to everyone; people of all sorts from different countries and cultures and lifestyles and backgrounds.
Don't take it out on the admins. "Nuno bad. Andrew bad." What did they ever do to you? Personally, what did they do to you?
When it comes to dealing with people, there's no easy way. You can't hunt down every single person you don't like and put a bvllet in them. Even though the idea might sound so appealing sometimes.
Just ignore. Learn to ignore.
Think about it. It's your attention. Would you rather pay attention to someone who values you or someone who makes you want to jump off a bridge?
It's so easy to get engrossed with people, and get frustrated with them because of your own expectations.
Slow down, take it easy.
This site is very addictive. More so than other social networks.
Don't let it consume your mind.
